THERMTEC THERMAL MONOCULAR CYCLOPS 335 SE
ThermTec CYCLOPS 335 SE thermal monocular with 384×288 sensor (NETD 20 mK), 35 mm F1.0 lens, 3.3x magnification and detection up to 1800 m. AI distance measurement (no laser rangefinder), 1024×768 AMOLED display, 64 GB, Wi-Fi, IP67 and up to 16 hours on its internal batteries.
The ThermTec CYCLOPS 335 SE thermal monocular is the simplified version of the Cyclops series: a 384×288 pixel sensor (12 µm, NETD 20 mK, 50 Hz), a 35 mm F1.0 objective lens with 3.3x magnification and detection up to 1800 m, in a 522 g body with two internal batteries that last up to 16 hours. It has no laser rangefinder: distance is estimated by AI or with the on-screen MIL scale.
Features
- 384×288 sensor with 20 mK NETD: a 12 µm VOx detector that separates the animal from the background; image calibration is automatic or manual, and the self-learning algorithm makes the image steadier with use.
- 35 mm F1.0 objective lens: 3.3x optical magnification and 1x to 4x continuous digital zoom (up to 13.2x), 7.5° × 5.6° field of view (13.2 × 9.9 m at 100 m) and detection up to 1800 m for a 1.8 m person, according to the manufacturer.
- AI and MIL distance measurement: the monocular recognises six object types and works out the distance from the height set for each; MIL-scale ranging is also available. It is an estimate and does not replace a laser rangefinder.
- 0.39-inch 1024×768 AMOLED display: 6 colour palettes (white, black, red, gold, green and violet), Forest, Target and Outline image modes, picture-in-picture (PIP) at 2x and electronic image stabilisation (EIS) for steady viewing at long range.
- One-handed use: a central joystick for zoom, palettes, ranging and menus, silent buttons and start-up in about 3 seconds. Heat tracking marks the hottest target on screen in real time.
- Recording and app: photo and video to 64 GB of internal memory, with playback on the device; via its Wi-Fi hotspot it connects to the ThermTec Outdoor app for live view, remote control, notifications and firmware updates.
- Built for the field: IP67 protection, operation from −20 °C to +50 °C, two internal 18650 batteries giving up to 16 hours of continuous use, and USB-C charging and data transfer.
Why choose this model?
The CYCLOPS 335 SE is for anyone who wants a 35 mm observation monocular with a 384×288 sensor, long battery life and simple handling, and does not need a laser rangefinder. It suits night-time wildlife observation, night hunting, hiking and searching in scrubland, the uses the manufacturer lists.
Compared with the CYCLOPS 335 LRF 3.0, the SE has no laser rangefinder, a 20 mK NETD (the 3.0 is below 15 mK), an F1.0 lens instead of F0.8 and a 1024×768 display instead of 1600×1200. In return, its two internal batteries give up to 16 hours in a row.

How to choose
In a thermal monocular, the lens sets the balance between field of view and range: 35 mm with 384×288 gives 3.3x base magnification and a 13.2 m field at 100 m, good for open fields and woodland edges. If you need the exact distance before moving closer, choose a model with a laser rangefinder; if the priority is observing for many hours with a light, simple device, the SE with its 16-hour internal battery is the most direct choice. Keep in mind the battery cannot be swapped in the field: it charges through the USB-C port, also from a power bank.
Frequently asked questions
Does the ThermTec CYCLOPS 335 SE have a rangefinder?
It has no laser rangefinder. It measures distance by AI, from the object type and height, or with the MIL scale. It is a useful estimate for observation, less precise than a laser.
What battery does it use, and can it be replaced?
It uses two internal 18650 lithium-ion batteries that the user cannot replace. They last up to 16 hours of continuous use and charge through the USB-C port.
How far can the CYCLOPS 335 SE detect an animal?
The manufacturer states 1800 m for a 1.8 m tall person. Detection means seeing that there is a heat source; recognising and identifying the animal requires much shorter distances.
Does it connect to a smartphone?
Yes. The monocular creates a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the ThermTec Outdoor app shows the live image, lets you control the device and updates the firmware.
Does it take photos and videos?
Yes, to 64 GB of internal memory, with playback on the monocular itself. Files transfer to a computer over the USB-C cable.
