Hori-Zone Orion II Black compound crossbow, with 205 lbs and over 400 fps (about 122 m/s). The 15-inch power stroke and narrow body, 36.8 cm wide when cocked, make it a fast crossbow that is easy to handle.

The Hori-Zone Orion II Black is a 205 lbs compound crossbow that exceeds 400 fps (about 122 m/s). It has a 15-inch (38.1 cm) power stroke and a narrow body, 36.8 cm (14.5") axle to axle when cocked. It is suited to recreational and sport shooting.

Who it's for

  • Shooters who want a fast compound crossbow for recreational and sport shooting, the use the brand specifies.
  • Those with some experience: cocking 205 lbs takes strength and technique, and the included cocking rope reduces the effort.
  • Adults: we only sell to adults aged 18 and over.

Features

  • Compound system: the cams deliver 205 lbs draw weight and over 400 fps.
  • 15-inch (38.1 cm) power stroke: the distance over which the string drives the bolt.
  • Narrow body: 45.1 cm (17.75") wide uncocked and 36.8 cm (14.5") cocked, practical in tight spaces.
  • Published energy: 131.43 ft-lb (about 178 J) with a 385-grain bolt.
  • Weight: 3.1 kg, with a black polymer body.
  • Foot stirrup at the front, to hold the crossbow on the ground while cocking.

How to choose

A compound crossbow stores energy in its cams and short limbs, so it is narrower and faster than a recurve with the same draw weight. On the other hand, it has more parts to check, such as cables and cams. Above 200 lbs the speed is enough for shooting at longer distances, but cocking by hand is tiring: anyone planning to shoot many times in a session should consider a crank. Weight matters too. At 3.1 kg, the Orion II is easy to carry, but a heavier crossbow is steadier when shooting standing. Before buying bolts, check the length and nock type specified for the crossbow.

FAQ

Which bolts does the Orion II use?
It comes with 3 carbon bolts of 20 inches (50.8 cm). The nock type is not published. Before ordering bolts from another brand, ask us to confirm.

How is it cocked?
With the crossbow resting on the ground and a foot in the stirrup, pull the string evenly on both sides, with the cocking rope or a crank, until it latches in the trigger. Never shoot a crossbow without a bolt, because a dry fire can break the string, the cables or the limbs.

What maintenance does it need?
Apply rail lubricant to the rail regularly and check the string, cables and cams before each session. If the string shows broken strands, it must be replaced before shooting again.
