ThermTec ARES 360 2.0 thermal riflescope with 384×288 sensor (NETD ≤ 20 mK) and 20/60 mm F1.0 dual field-of-view lens: 1.8x to search, 5.5x to identify, detection up to 3000 m. First-shot zeroing, recoil-activated video, Wi-Fi, IP67, 6000 J and up to 18 hours of battery life.

The ThermTec ARES 360 2.0 thermal riflescope has a 20/60 mm F1.0 dual field-of-view lens: at 20 mm it gives 1.8x and a wide field to search, at 60 mm it gives 5.5x to identify the animal at long range, with detection up to 3000 m. The sensor is 384×288 pixels (12 µm, NETD ≤ 20 mK, 50 Hz), and dual power, with a built-in and a replaceable battery, reaches 18 hours. This version has no laser rangefinder: it measures distance by AI.

Features

  • 20/60 mm dual field of view: a lever switches manually between the two focal lengths, a 3x optical zoom. At 20 mm the field is 13.1° × 9.8° (23 × 17.3 m at 100 m); at 60 mm it is 4.4° × 3.3° (7.7 × 5.8 m at 100 m).
  • Range: detection of a 1.8 m person at 1000 m with 20 mm and at 3000 m with 60 mm; for a 0.7 m wild boar, about 389 m and 1200 m, according to the manufacturer's chart. The 1x to 4x continuous digital zoom takes magnification up to 22x.
  • 384×288 sensor with NETD ≤ 20 mK: a 12 µm VOx detector with manual or automatic image calibration and a self-learning algorithm.
  • Quick zeroing: first-shot auto zeroing or manual zeroing, with freeze and zoom during the process. The 5 profiles store coordinates, distance and rifle.
  • Reticles and image: 7 reticles in 5 colours (black, white, red, green and blue), 6 colour palettes, picture-in-picture (PIP) and a 0.39-inch 1024×768 AMOLED display.
  • Automatic detection and AI ranging: the scope detects objects and estimates distance; with the app connected over Wi-Fi, it sends a notification when a target enters the field of view.
  • Recoil-activated video (RAV): records before, during and after the shot; photo and video with sound to 64 GB of internal memory, with live view in the ThermTec Outdoor app.
  • Power and build: a built-in 18650 battery plus a replaceable 18650 or 18500 (both caps are in the box), up to 18 hours; standard 30 mm rings (included), recoil up to 6000 J, IP67, −20 °C to +50 °C and a rotary knob.

Why choose this model?

The ARES 360 2.0 settles the trade-off between searching and identifying in a single scope: at 20 mm you scan the ground with a wide field, and at 60 mm you bring the animal closer without losing resolution, because the magnification is optical. It suits hunters working at very different distances, from woodland edges to open fields.

It is longer and heavier than the ARES 335 2.0 (1072 g against 814 g), and its sensor has a 20 mK NETD instead of 18 mK. For a compact body at medium distances there is the ARES 335 2.0; for a laser rangefinder and trajectory there is the ARES 360 LRF 2.0.

How to choose

Across the ARES 2.0 series the 1024×768 display, zeroing, recording and 18-hour battery life are shared; the sensor and lens are what change. The ARES 335 2.0 (384×288, 35 mm, 3.2x, 814 g) is the most compact. The ARES 360 2.0 (384×288, 20/60 mm, 1.8x/5.5x, 1072 g) combines a wide field and long range in one scope. The 6xx models use a 640×512 sensor for more detail, and the LRF versions add a laser rangefinder and trajectory.

Frequently asked questions

How does the ARES 360 2.0 dual field of view work?
A lever on the lens switches between 20 mm (1.8x, 23 m field at 100 m) and 60 mm (5.5x, 7.7 m field at 100 m). It is an optical change, so the image keeps the full sensor resolution in both positions.

Does the ThermTec ARES 360 2.0 have a rangefinder?
It has no laser rangefinder. It estimates distance by AI from the detected object. The version with a laser rangefinder is the ARES 360 LRF 2.0.

What batteries does it use?
A built-in 18650 battery and a replaceable 18650 or 18500, giving up to 18 hours in total. The box includes two lithium batteries, a charger and caps for both sizes.

How far can it detect a wild boar?
The manufacturer's chart gives about 389 m at 20 mm and 1200 m at 60 mm for a 0.7 m wild boar. Identifying the animal safely requires a much shorter distance.

Does it record shots?
Yes. With recoil-activated video (RAV) it records before, during and after the shot, with sound, to 64 GB of internal memory.
